However, few of the many texts form comprehensive introductions to the subject for British engineers. The content of this book attempts to bridge the gap between the text concerned with scientific processes and the applied numerical text. It is based on lecture material given to undergraduate and postgraduate students coming newly to the subject. Hydrology in Practice is addressed primarily to civil engineering undergraduates. It aims to give an essentially practical approach to the various facets of the subject and emphasizes the application of hydrological knowledge to solving engineering problems. However, the style of the book should also be attractive to undergraduates in other disciplines hoping to make a career in the water industry. Additionally, it could be a useful reference book to the junior engineer in the design office of a consulting engineer or water authority concerned with water engineering problems.
